I think that the Sims 3 is a better game than the Sims 4 at least until we get more expansions. I want to try playing the Sims 3, but it's practically unplayable with how often it freezes. I essentially can't go faster than normal speed and can't rotate the camera if it's not paused or else it freezes for about a minute. It also crashes somewhat frequently so I have to remember to save often. It does this on both my laptop and my desktop. The Sims 4 has none of these problems, which makes it more playable for me even though I like the Sims 3 better.

TS3 is pretty old and it's not graphically demanding in the slightest. So it's only able to use one core? It can use more than one cores, but in the sense that different tasks (such as rendering, sound, pathfinding, main simulation, etc.) can be done on different cores. Most tasks by themselves can only use one core, which means if it a task takes too long (due to a single core not being fast enough) then the game stutters. Why do some people stutter horribly and some people don't?
This can be explained by several reasons • How long the save file has been played/how large the save file is (some people sticks with one save file while some people start new saves very often) • How large the world is/how many Sims are in the town • How many EPs/SPs/store sets are installed • How many mods/CC are used Then there are also other factors such as • People have different tolerate levels for stuttering • Sometimes people lie or exaggerate when they say their game is stutter-free/runs like a dream (e.g. When hardcore TS3 fans trying to defend their game) • • • • •.
The game is basically a complete POS under the hood. There's not really a great deal you can do and it suffers from the same poor performance even on high-end rigs. A few things that will help a little: • If you're using a 64-bit OS, your executable should be set to Large Address Aware so that it can use more than 3 GB of RAM. • If on Windows you should add ts3w.exe to the Data Execution Prevention exclusion list. The game uses tons of memory due to leaks, so Windows will often kill the process unless you've added an exclusion.
• Merge your custom content into.dbc files. The game will only have to read one giant extra file vs hundreds of additional files.
• Disable Sim Memories in settings. Use mods to clear them from all Sims in the world. Wow repair for mac pro.
They, along with the auto-generated snapshots, will bloat your save file to absurd sizes, and have a huge impact on performance. • Use Nrass Overwatch to regularly clean up the game world. In particular, set it to clear hidden inventory vehicles as these accumulate in tens of thousands and will dramatically impact performance. • Don't blindly use mods such as StoryProgression or AwesomeMod story with every feature enabled. They have a huge impact on performance as they actually push inactive Sims to do things around the world. Adjust settings carefully so that you find a nice balance between performance and functionality.
• Save regularly using 'Save As.' , as the game retains everything in memory during a session. When you save it more or less copies all of this information to a save file before finally clearing unneeded objects from memory.
If there's too much data to copy, the save attempt will fail with Error 12. Upgrading your computer hardware might help. Install Sims 3 & related files & OS on an SSD.
System Requirements(). ~ Make sure your graphics card is one of the ones that is green all the ways across. If you have less than 4 GB of ram, increase it. That you don't need running. I also agree with everything the poster niauve says as well. So I just installed the TS3 base game on my laptop after my desktop PC stopped working. I figured, 'hey, I'll just copy over all my old TS3 saved games/mods/cc.' I try to run the game: crash, crash, crash. Will not run at all.
So I delete the entire contents of my Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3 folder and try it again. Game runs perfectly; short load times, very smooth. My point is, if the game is running poorly, try making a fresh start with just the base game and no user-made content at all. Then try adding the files/EPs you want back in gradually, and see when performance starts to take a hit.
