Word for Mac remains the gold standard for word processors, but it's no bargain. You can't buy Word without buying the whole Microsoft Office package, which means you end up paying a lot for.

Click to expand.Lookig at The slot-loders came out at the end of 1999. The bottom-end model was $999. I guess that would mean around £800 inc VAT, as the $ was worth more against the £ in 1999.

When you sold it in September 2002, the G3 iMacs had largely gone, apart from the education market - being finally discontinued in March 2003. The 700MHz G3 was launched mid 2001 at $1,499, and was probably reduced in price over time, so could well have been around $1,200 (£900) new in September 2002. FWIW, I was selling 500MHz iMacs for £240 in late 2004.

ISTR the earliest slot-loaders making around £150 at that time, as not only are they slower than 500Mhz ones, but have much smaller HDs and usually less RAM. I bought a slightly faulty 400MHz slot-load for under £200 in 2002, and thought I had a real bargain.

SLot loaders have always carried a significant premium over the slightly older tray-loader. So, at a wild guess, I think we're talking a September 2002 value of around £350, perhaps a little more with more than 128Mb RAM, and perhaps a little less to a good friend. But I could be £100 out, either way! Good point Stuart. I must say that since I got my iMac 400dv I have been hugely pleased with it.

Prior to this I was a confirmed PC'er I have had it errrrr about 5 years. How to do search and replace in word for mac. Before that I was spending £250 a year minimum on ungrading or fixing my PC.

I vowed not to upgrade (i.e. To play the vaguely lastest games) and instead get a mac and a PS1/Playstation 2 for games (which work 1st time, every time and no configs to mess with) I am still very happy with my bondi imac - it does everything well - i use it for Word, surfing and photoshop (well, graphic converter) for the family digital pics. AND NO VIRUSES Its just that - I would like a *much* bigger HD (for when I get a 5 mp camera) and I sort of pine for OSX. Still, endless upgrades is something that I want to avoid. (.and the mini mac is a desirable item.
