Pal Converter For Mac
Posted:adminOK, I this over in the A/V forum, but didn't get the response I was hoping for, so I'll try again here. I'm just getting started with iMovie, and I want to be able to send my projects (filmed with an NTSC Mini-DV camcorder) on video tape to family members in both the U.S. I know that I'll need a multi-system VCR capable of playing and recording both NTSC and PAL. I also know I'll need a seperate analog to DV converter to get the PAL footage from my Mac to the VCR--my camcorder, being NTSC, will only bridge/convert NTSC streams. I'm looking at the Canopus ADVC-100 that was recommended in What I'm unsure of is the best way to convert NTSC DV to PAL DV. Also in that thread, Oxonian was kind enough to tell me that converting DV NTSC to DV PAL using Quicktime yields less than stellar results.
Any Video Converter Free Mac version is the best free video converter to convert any video to WMV, MP4, AVI, MP3, download YouTube videos, edit video and burn videos to DVD.
Obviously, since there are just home movies, I'm not looking for super quality (and I realize there will be some quality loss in the DV to analog transfer anyway). However, these are Precious Moments we're talking about, and I'd like my wedding video to look decent when my in-laws play it back on their VCR in Germany. Can someone recommend another good but reasonably-priced way to get my DV NTSC converted to DV PAL? Is there an inexpensive hardware solution that I could use in addition to the Canopus digital/analog bridge?
I'm envisioning something like this: iMac via Firewire to Canopus DV/Analog Bridge via S-Video or RCA to NTSC/PAL converter via S-Video or RCA to PAL VCR In the alternative, does anyone know of any decent software way to do this on a Mac? Will Final Cut Pro do this? It's a little out of my budget, but I have a friend who has access to it, so I could probably borrow his computer when I need to convert footage. Any help appreciated. Do all your editing and whatnot in iMovie. If you want an NTSC copy, export to the camera (or DV-Analog convertor) now. Export to Quicktime, and choose 'DV-PAL' as the compressor. Start a new iMovie Project, and import the file created in step 3. You may need to name it.dv instead of.mov.
I don't think you will need quicktime pro. Export the PAL project to your PAL camera or DV-Analog converter.

[crosses fingers]. Cracked mac apps. The only multisystem VCR I know that might be able to take an NTSC input and record it as PAL is the AIWA HV-MX1, which has two built-in converters (one input and one output, I believe). The quality of the conversion is poor at best.
Most multisystem VCR's are without converters, and even those with a single converter can only record in the format of the signal fed into them. I must qualify a remark in my previous post - I recall now that I was attempting to convert a DV-PAL file to DV-NTSC.
