You can embed or link to a video from your computer into your presentation. Embedded videos are convenient, but because they're stored in the presentation, they increase the size of your presentation. Linked videos keep your presentation's size smaller, but links can break if you move the file without moving the video. To avoid breaking a video link, copy the video into the same folder as your presentation, and link to it there. In PowerPoint for Office 365 for Mac and PowerPoint 2019 for Mac, you can insert an online video. Online videos keep your presentation's size smaller, and don't need to be copied to your computer. The link simply points to the video on the website.

Actually I solved the problem by realizing that Powerpoint is really bad in compressing photos. I tried to insert a 20MB jpeg and it looked awful in my Powerpoint Mac 2011. I solved it by adjusting the resolution with Photoshop and then pasted it - the results are a huge improvement! 
When I try to insert an equation in powerpoint (Office 2011 for Mac), the equation editor appears but after a menu with symbols drops down the editor freezes. Note that the equation editor works fine with word. Into a powerpoint slide. From what i have read i will need to make a new file with the code for it and insert it as an object.
